phpBB3 RC1

Well, I figured since I haven't really dealt with PHPBB in a while, that I would download and take a look at PHPBB3.0 RC1.

I figured it would be easy to install, and that I would be up and using it in no time. However, that didn't seem to be the case. Instead once I installed it, and tried to go to either the admin panel or the forum index, all that showed up was a blank page...

I'll try doing it again here, to see if I have any more luck. (after all it is just a release candidate)

But I am wondering what others think about phpbb3 so far.

Edit: Ok, I tried installing it on another server and it seemed to work just fine. So there must have been something configured in a way that phpbb3 didn't like on the server I first tried.

RE: phpBB3 RC1

I'm a bit surprised to read this. phpBB has had a number of problems, but its installation was already very easy and intuitive. Anyhow, how do you like it so far?

RE: phpBB3 RC1

Well, the new theme seems really nice, but I haven't had too much time to really play around with much else with phpBB. I decided, that i'll just wait for the full release to come out before I really give it too much of a go.

On a side note they do have RC3 now out, meaning probably a number of bug fixes and such.

Do you know much about Spam filter in this new phpBB? I like phpBB, but it has a major downside, pretty dysfunctional Spam filter.

RE: phpBB3 RC1

I think its great. The only thing that is holding me back from using it, is that it does not have a working plugins system as of yet, so doing modifications is still a major pain.

That is one thing that really annoyed me with phpBB, the fact that I had to do all kinds of file edits in order to install plugins....i didn't play around with it enough to find out that that was still the case...I would have thought that they would have something by now for that.

RE: phpBB3 RC1

In my opinion, phpBB is great and I definitely enjoy the new version. I hope that they'll be complete with it soon. Also, it would be great if more mods were made.

RE: phpBB3 RC1

Well since it usually depends on users to make mods, really it depends on how many users there are to PHPBB3 and what they decide to do with it.
