Image mapping

I've been studying image mapping and training in it. I've checked it out in the past but have been dying to try it, so I did. I always pictured communities actually looking like communities - you know, a town, a village, a city, futuristic fort, whatever turned you on or helped create the atmosphere you wanted to radiate. I decided to go to try it with one of my sites and just said what the heck, make it the homepage, be different, take a chance. I haven't learned how to do java scripting for fancy effects, and need to study all the pros and cons more, but I went with the conservative standard deal just for now. Getting my feet wet, trying to pool my related skills and vision into things more.

Bravo to Mapedit!

I used mapedit for the image mapping code work. It's a nice program! I can't believe it's free, too.

Mapeedit is here: Mapedit

Check it out one approach, let me know what you think:

Forum Owner Services

I just added a medieval village that you can see if you go to your account preferences and switch themes.

I'm preparing to offer this type of service as part of my existing custom theming services for WowBB and WowClassic software.

Anyone else here ever dibble in image mapping? I am particularly interested in anyone who has a lot of experience using the alternate or advanced methods, such as using javascript.

RE: Image mapping

I have done a little bit with image mapping, but you got to be careful and make sure that it degrades nicely on browsers that do not support it.

I haven't ever used any software for it, just used trusty old notepad++ to write my code in, and have been satisfied with what I have been able to come up with.

RE: Image mapping

That mapedit is cool .. lets you edit stuff easy and gives you the html code to paste right into your webpage.

RE: Image mapping

Yes, although it looks like it costs $15 USD?

RE: Image mapping

Ah yes, sorry, meant free for up to 100 saves it tells me. It is free to download. I should have said free to try and do some work on, but longer term yes, it costs $15. I am sure I will be buying it soon unless I come across something I find superior.

RE: Image mapping

Well I have done a little bit of work with application programming, so you never know if I get into doing Image mapping a little more I may look into creating some program to help me with it, in which case I would release it on sourcedevelop for anybody to use as they would like for their websites, although I would probably want to make sure there was interest in such a thing first and then start a topic about it and find out what features people would like and how they would like it to work and so forth before actually coding anything.
