Alright, well this is the place to tell everybody what your favorite forum software to use is. And don't forget to tell us some of the reasons why.

RE: Favorite Forum Software

I'm a vBulletin fan. Once I bought it I fell in love with it. Its really great with all the features and a nice Admin CP. If I had to take a free one though, I'd probabally pick SMF or MyBB.

RE: Favorite Forum Software

WOWbb is one that costs money - $99 for lifetime license.

I agree with you about the free ones. MyBB is pretty nice on the forums I have seen that use it.

RE: Favorite Forum Software

I am going to have to go with vBulletin. Its the king of forum software. I love the control panel and how easy it is to mod the forum. But if I had to pick free software you cant go wrong with SMF.

RE: Favorite Forum Software

I voted VB
I don't exactly know why but I feel like VB forums are more easily usable by any user
I have skinned and used phpbb several times, it's free and works smooth for me, the only thing that I don't like in it is that when upgrading you lose any mod you applied if it included the editing of a tpl file (and lots of mods work this way)

Lol, well I seem to feel the opposite. I find VB forums the hardest of all of them to use....i don't really know why...i just do...i have the hardest time navigating on VB forums a lot of times....and the way things are laid out...i am not really sure, for some reason i just find it harder to navigate and use. But I guess that is my preference, and maybe it is because I haven't had too much experience with VB, and have never had VB forums of my own.

RE: Favorite Forum Software

well it might actually be just a matter of habits
I have been a member of forums running vbulletin for years and have made thousands of posts on such boards so maybe it's just my impression as VB is my natural idea of forums

RE: Favorite Forum Software

Yes, I too am beginning more and more to think that is the case, that it is simply what people are used to...as to what they generally like. As soon as you come to something very different, you may not be so likely to like it as well....and so you get stuck in your ways. For example, when I started out I did a fair amount on phpbb forums, after which I ended up doing a lot with IPB for a few years where I got my first experience with being an admin of forums that got tons members and posts. And so then naturally I liked IPB, and then when I went looking for forum software available for free, I took software that resembled IPB in features and look.

RE: Favorite Forum Software

I think everyone definitely is more comfortable with whatever they use regularly. I am sure they all have strong and weak points, but like anything else if you know all the shortcuts it is a lot easier then learning an entire new program
